What types of materials testing does MatX Lab offer?

Our services cover fifteen analytical test methods, such as Imaging & Microscopy, Failure Analysis, Thermal Analysis, Corrosion & Environmental Testing, Particle Analysis, Surface Analysis, 3D Characterization, Elemental Analysis, Physical & Rheological Properties, Spectroscopy, Electrical Testing, Fire & Flammability, Optical & Appearance Testing, Structural Characterization, and Mechanical Testing. Which industries do you serve?

Semiconductors, electronics, automotive, commercial aerospace, energy, manufacturing, metals, polymers, medical devices, and advanced materials. Eleven industries that depend on knowing exactly what their materials are made of, how they behave, and why they sometimes do not.

Can you identify an unknown material?

Yes. Material identification and deformulation are common requests, whether you are verifying a supplier’s claim, benchmarking a competitor’s product, or working out what a contaminant is. Depending on the material, this usually combines spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal analysis to build a composition picture.

Do you perform failure analysis?

Yes, and failure analysis is one of our core services. A common investigation moves from non-destructive documentation through fractography, compositional analysis, and microstructural examination to a root-cause conclusion, reported with the supporting evidence.

Instructions: If you suspect or have a failure, do not clean or handle the fracture surface. The answer is often in what is on it.

Standards & Reporting

Are your tests aligned to ASTM, ISO, or other standards?

Yes. Our analyses are aligned to published test methods, ASTM, ISO, IEC, UL, and MIL-STD, wherever an applicable one exists, and the method is cited in your report. If your customer or specification names a particular method, tell us at quoting and we scope to it.

Do you certify materials or products?

No. MatX Lab performs analysis and reports results against published methods. We do not issue product certifications, and we do not act as a standards body. We mention this clearly because the distinction matters: our reports document the findings and what the results indicate, which is what most engineering, quality, and dispute contexts require. If you require product certification from an international body, let us know, and we will arrange the process.

What does a MatX Lab report include?

Outcomes first, then Support: the question addressed, methods used with standard citations where they apply, conditional set-up, referenced images and data, results, and, where you asked for it, interpretation labeled as interpretation.
Raw data is available on request; please let us know when discussing the scope of the work. If you want to walk through the results, we may provide expert consultation either with or without any charges.

Process & Logistics

How do I get a quote?

Submit the Start a Project form on every page, email us, or call us. Describe the material, any required standards, sample quantity, and the project timeline. Most quotes come back within one to two business days. Complex multi-technique programs may take longer to scope accurately.

How long does testing take?

Most testing has a time frame. Routine single-technique analyses often finish within 2 to 10 business days of sample receipt; multi-technique investigations run longer. We inform you of the turnaround in advance.

How do I ship samples?

After your quote is approved, we will provide a project number and shipping instructions specific to your tests, and do not ship anything before scoping is complete.

Will testing destroy my sample?

For non-destructive (NDT), including most imaging, X-ray methods, and 3D scanning. Others consume or alter the sample, such as mechanical testing and some thermal and compositional methods. If your sample is one of a kind or evidence in a dispute, inform us. We sequence the work non-destructively first and get your approval before any destructive step.

How is testing coordinated?

MatX Lab coordinates testing through a network of accredited partner laboratories, which is why our capability range is broader than any single facility. You work with one project contact throughout and receive one unified report. Full details are on our How It Works page.

Pricing & Confidentiality

How much does materials testing cost?

It ranges widely, because testing ranges from a single optical inspection to a months-long aging and exposure test. Simple single-technique analyses may run a few hundred dollars; complex investigations run into the thousands. Every quote is itemized before you commit. We don’t charge any flat rate, so it makes it suitable for all.

Is my project confidential?

Yes, by default. Inquiry details, specifications, samples, and results are treated as confidential from information sharing. Even your email and name are confidential. The results are released only to you. NDAs are routine. If you need one signed before describing your problem, say so, and we handle it before the scoping call.

Can I talk to someone before committing?

Yes. If you are not sure testing is even the right move, a short conversation costs nothing and often saves weeks.
