We Serve 11 Industries

At MatX Lab, we offer characterization, testing, and failure analysis services for eleven industries where materials performance is non-negotiable, ranging from semiconductors and aerospace to energy, medical devices, and research. No matter the industry, the process remains the same: transforming a material and a question into an answer.

Industries We Serve

Each industry has unique materials, failure modes, and standards, and the right test is the one that answers the industry's questions. At MatX Lab, we offer characterization, testing, and failure analysis services for eleven industries where materials performance is non-negotiable, ranging from semiconductors and aerospace to energy, medical devices, and research. No matter the industry, the process remains the same: transforming a material and a question into an answer.

How We Work Across Industries

Our projects are managed on a case-by-case basis, where we coordinate the testing of your program across a network of labs that have been approved partners of ours. This system guarantees that your program is determined by the problem at hand and not by the equipment of the lab closest to you; therefore, a study of contamination in semiconductors and an aerospace fatigue test will use the proper technique.

Industries

Advanced Materials

Characterization of new materials and synthesized materials ranging from graphene, nanomaterials, and composites, to functional coatings. We verify structure, composition, and purity, and monitor reproducibility from batch to batch during development into a repeatable material.

Aerospace

Testing of commercial aerospace materials for fatigue, fractures, corrosion, weld and coating integrity, and composites. Material qualification, supplier verification, and root cause analysis of material failure by data that is acceptable in design review or audit.

Automotive

Field returns investigation, supplier verification, and durability testing on metal, polymer, coating, and battery materials. Determination of the reason why the part failed and compliance with the OEM specification. The same will be applicable to the next batch.

Electronics

Defect location, cleanliness, and reliability testing of boards, components, and packages. Identification of solder defects, ionic contamination, organic contamination, and thermal cycling failure.

Energy

Generation, transmission, and storage materials testing by corrosion, high temperature, welding, and batteries. We test your ability to perform in tough environments, examine any failures, and verify that the materials are suitable for their environments.

Manufacturing

Material characterization, weld quality, coating inspection, contamination, and manufacturing failure analysis. We ensure that you can release or hold a batch with certainty, and resolve the manufacturing problem, not just the product problem.

Medical Devices

Metal alloy implants, plastic implants, coating materials, and surface analyses. Corrosion testing of metal alloy implants. Medical Device Testing does not include biocompatibility or certification testing.

Metals & Metalworking

Materials-level examination of implantable metal alloys, plastics, and coatings, including surface analysis and corrosion testing. Our medical device testing supports your material qualifications and is not biocompatibility or product certification.

Polymers

Identification, deformulation, thermal and mechanical properties, additives, and failure analysis of plastics and rubbers. We solve what the resin is, whether the formula corresponds to the reference, and what caused the failure of the part.

Semiconductors

Wafer and die contamination, thin-film analysis, defect localization, and failure analysis at the scale semiconductor problems live at. We trace contamination, measure films, and localize defects down to the atomic layer.

Research & Development

The full range of analytical methods for R&D teams, without buying the instruments. We characterize novel materials, run comparative studies, and produce publication-, patent-, and grant-grade data you can defend.

Standards Across Industries

In every industry we operate in, standards exist. We make sure that we align our analyses based on the standards required by the particular customer or specification, ranging from ASTM to ISO, IEC, UL, and MIL-STD. Each industry page lists the standard designations most appropriate for that industry. Our Standards page explains what alignment entails and what it does not.

Industries FAQs

Do you serve industries beyond the eleven listed?

Often, yes. Materials analysis crosses sector boundaries, so if your work does not fit neatly into one industry, describe the material and the question, and we will scope it.

Can one project span several industries?

Yes. A material or supplier that serves multiple sectors is common, and one program can cover the methods and standards each requires, reported together.

How do I know which industry page applies to me?

Start with the material and the question rather than the label. If you are unsure, contact us, and we will point you to the right methods regardless of how the work is categorized.

About MatX Lab

MatX Lab coordinates your testing through a network of accredited partner laboratories, so every industry program draws on the right instruments under one point of accountability. You work with one contact and receive one report. Methods are aligned to ASTM, ISO, IEC, UL, and MIL-STD where a published method applies. MatX Lab is an analysis provider, not a standards body, and issues no certifications. Every engagement can sit under an NDA.
